997 S Exhaust |
|
A stock 997S with it's 3.8 L engine of 355Hp has ø 55mm primary exhaust tubes which is the same size of tubes as the older 996 3.4 L engine with 300 hp. To cope with the additional airflow of the larger 997S engine , our sport exhaust system uses a combination of ø 60.3mm and ø 63.5mm primary tubes. (2 3/8 inch and 2 1/2 inch) |

The stock 997S headers have ø 42mm
tubes. Both the 997S X51 and 996 GT3 headers
have ø 48mm tubes. We have build and tested
several equal length headers in both 45mm , 48mm and 50mm
tube sizes. Eventually the OEM X51 headers turned
out to equally good but without having the inevitable ground
clearance issues. |

Our 997S sport exhaust system consists of: |

- 1 set sport mufflers
- 1 set sport catalytic convertors with 100 cells per square inch
- 1 set OEM X51 headers
- 4 sets exhaust clamps
- 2 tube clamps to hold the catalytic convertors
- 1 set modified chromed OEM dual tailpipes
(optional 1 set modified chromed equipment 997 Carrera oval tailpipes)

There is lots of torque down low and the throttle response is phenomenal. There is no droning while cruising and no droning during acceleration. Our 997S sport exhaust system must be used with the stock air intake housing and the stock air cleaner. |
|
|
It took us 10 months and 8500 km of testing on our own 997S to get these results. We used a Maha dyno and 2 different Bosch dynos during the development. This is our best performing exhaust system since we started building 911 sport and race exhaust professionally about 18 years ago. |

Our 997 Turbo sport exhaust comes with less restrictive ø 153mm Emitec 100 cpsi sport cats. |

The foils of our ø 153mm sport cats are perforated with holes so the exhaust gas flow can enter into the neighbouring channels. Conventional cats have just an axial flow pattern while our cats will flow axial, diagonal and radial. The exhaust gasses spread evenly inside the cat which results in lower backpressure. These type of cats are also used on the current Porsche Super Cup cars. |

The cross section of our ø 153mm sport cats is 40% larger than ø 130mm cats, 60% larger than ø 118mm cats and over 100 % larger than the commonly used ø 108mm cats. |
|
|
|
These big size 100 cell cats will create less backpressure than higher density cats of the same size. ( same diameter + length ) Low backpressure on turbocharged engines is beneficial for both the horsepower / torque and the throttle response. |
|
|
|
The volume of the sport cat, its total surface area, the amount / content of the precious metal coating and the addition of heat shields are the key factors in having a long lasting trouble-free cat converter. |
|
|
|
A large catalyst surface area allows for better exhaust gas conversion efficiency, durability and cleaner air. |
|
|
|
We don't offer 200 cell semi-sport cats on our sport exhausts because these are more restrictive than the real 100 cell sport cats. |
|
|
|
Our big 100 cell sport cats do not cause emission issues or check engine light problems. |
|
|
|
The heatshields around our catalytic convertors allow for quicker heat up during cold start and to prevent them from thermal shocks. The muffler heat shields reflect radiant heat away from the engine timing belts. |
|
|
|
Our sport exhaust makes the 997 Turbo sound like a Porsche, not like some kind of loud car. As soon as you're making boost ( 0.2 Bar on the dashboard ) the turbo whistle becomes very prominent. Also, everytime you let off the gas abruptly, there is a woosh sound which is really addictive. |
